Paper 1 is for candidates wants to teach Secondary classes (Classes 9-10) and is based on the undergraduate (Graduation) level syllabus. Paper 2 is for candidates wants to teach Senior Secondary classes (Classes 11–12) and is based on post-graduate level syllabus.

For Paper 1, the subjcets follow the graduation-level syllabus applicable in the universities of Bihar.
For Paper 2, the subjects follow the graduation Honours-level syllabus applicable in universities of Bihar.

The Bihar STET exam comprises 150 objective multiple-choice questions (MCQs) carrying 150 marks with a time duration of 150 minutes (2 hours 30 minutes). The exam is divided into two sections:

  • Section 1 (Specified Subject): 100 questions (100 marks)
  • Section 2 (Art of Teaching & Other Skills): 50 questions (50 marks)

The Section 2 of 50 marks is common for both Paper 1 and Paper 2. It contains 50 questions divided into two main parts:

  • Art of Teaching (30 Marks): Covers pedagogy, teaching methods, lesson planning, Bloom’s Taxonomy, microteaching, evaluation, and classroom management.
  • Other Skills (20 Marks): Divided equally across General Knowledge (5 marks), Environmental Science (5 marks), Mathematical Aptitude (5 marks), and Logical Reasoning (5 marks).

There is no negative marking for incorrect answers in Bihar STET. However, because the test is conducted via Computer Based Testing (CBT) across multiple shifts with varied difficulty, BSEB uses a Normalization process to calculate the final score. Attempting a high proportion of wrong answers can negatively impact your Normalized Score, which alone determines whether you pass or fail.

According to the official notification, candidates must score the following minimum percentage/score out of 150 marks:

  • General / Unreserved: 50% (75 marks)
  • Backward Class (BC): 45.5% (68.25 marks)
  • Extremely Backward Class (EBC): 42.5% (63.75 marks)
  • SC / ST / PwD / Women: 40% (60 marks)

(Note: Category relaxations apply exclusively to permanent residents of Bihar).

The minimum age limit is 21 years. Upper age limits are 37 years for Unreserved Male, 40 years for Unreserved Female/BC/EBC, and 42 years for SC/ST. The application fee is ₹960 for a single paper or ₹1440 for both papers for General/EWS/BC/EBC candidates, and ₹760 / ₹1140 for SC/ST/PwD candidates.
